National Center for Maritime Policy Research is a research institute established to achieve following objectives:
1. Undertake research in various sectors of maritime activity related to international commerce, ports & shipping, fishing, seabed resources, climatic changes, environments and all resources that support human life.
2. Carry out research analysis, and evaluation of national and international maritime issues and policies with the aim of determining their effect and recommend solution to advance national maritime interests. Also suggest confidence building measures to enhance cooperation among maritime national and contribute towards a secure and peaceful environment in Indian ocean and Asia Pacific region.
3. Assist and advice government and other stake holders to enhance cooperation amongst international and regional players in maritime domain, in order to safeguard national interests.
4. Provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on maritime matters amongst government, non-government, stake holders and academic organizations for planning and implementation of national maritime policy.
5. Promote public awareness on the importance of maritime affairs of Pakistan and disseminate knowledge on maritime issues through active outreach programmes including publications, media or any other modern means of communication.
6. Establish collaboration with national and international institutes involved in maritime studies and other related aspects.
7. Organize and participate in national & international seminars, conferences, workshops and other related events on maritime matters and to present and enhance Pakistan’s view point.
8. Design and undertake study courses on topics related to maritime growth, development, disorder and other areas of national interest. Offer scholarships, stipends, awards & prizes to promote academic activity in maritime domain.
9. Establish comprehensive library and databank to facilities study and information on maritime matters and publication of news letters, research papers, journals etc.
10. To evaluate maritime economic and security issues and naval strategies of states and powers operating in the Indian ocean.
11. Carry out all such academic activities relating to maritime studies as promulgated by Bahria University.
